I check what’s actually there.
I’ll check the burner or heating elements, thermostat, valves, venting, and the tank itself. If there’s a leak or a bad part, I’ll show you where it is.
If it’s a small repair, I’ll say so. If more work is needed, I’ll explain it and give you the cost before I start.
I work on standard tank water heaters and can help with the right replacement when the old one is done. All plumbing and gas work is performed under a NYC licensed Master Plumber.

The price depends on what failed, the parts needed, and how easy the heater is to reach. The estimate is free. If I come out to diagnose it, that service call comes off the repair.
I won’t tell you to replace the heater if a safe repair will keep it going. If the tank is leaking or the repair doesn’t make sense, I’ll show you why replacement is the better call.
